Magura Winery was established in 1967 in the village of Rabisha, in the northwestern part of Bulgaria. It is located 38 kilometers from the municipal center of the city of Belogradchik - a region known for its unique geology and historic sights together with a thousand-year tradition of viticulture and winemaking.
The famous Belogradchik rock formations were sculpted by the elements for 200 million years. The Magura cave geology began around 15 million years ago. The Rabisha lake nearby was formed over a span of 4 million years - the largest internal lake in Bulgaria. Local archeology shows the tradition of viticulture and winemaking here dates back many thousands of years.
The grape varieties characterising this region of Bulgaria are Gamza and Vrachan Misket, known as Vrachan Pansy, which produces wine with a consistent aroma and taste.
Since 2006, "Magura" winery have embarked on an ambitious program of major reconstruction and modernisation of almost all elements of its activity. It is established as a modern winery meeting all European requirements for the production of natural sparkling wine, high-quality wines and rakia.
The production cycle covers all technological operations from the initial processing of grapes to bottling. The entire process is carried out using state-of-the-art equipment, allowing full control of all processes up to the finished product. Quality control is guaranteed by a modernly equipped laboratory.
The process of aging and maturation of the wines takes place in high-quality French, Bulgarian and American oak barrels, which are of utmost importance for maturing the wines. Carefully selected grape varieties and barrels are essential components of the winemakers' repertoire to express the Rabisha character in their products.
Currently, the annual production capacity of the "Magura" wine cellar is up to 2 million bottles of wine, 100 thousand bottles of rakia and 100 thousand bottles of natural sparkling wine. "Magura" wines have a modern sound and a unique regional character, produced with minimal technological intervention. In addition to its natural Magura sparkling wine, the winery specializes in the production of an impressive range of still wines.
"Magura" cellar is also known for the production of quality Bulgarian rakia (similar to brandy): "Magurska Temenuga", "Magurska special" & "Magurska slivova".
The production of "Magura" is supplied throughout Bulgaria through its own company stores, commercial chains and distributors in the regional centers of the country.
